LGBTQ+ Oral History Project at UMBC

June 22, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Kate Drabinski headshotEvent Recording

LGBTQ+ history is a growing field, but in many cases, researchers must build their own archives because our stories have not been preserved in traditional ways. Join Dr. Kate Drabinski and UMBC student contributors to learn about the new LGBTQ+ Oral History project she has started with students, to be archived at UMBC’s Special Collections. Dr. Kate will talk about the inspiration for the project, theoretical and ethical considerations for doing this work, and what we have and can learn from student oral history interviews with each other and community members of all ages.

Bio: Kate Drabinski is Principal Lecturer in Gender, Women’s, and Sexuality Studies at UMBC where she also directs the WILL+ program, a feminist leadership living learning community. She helps lead LGBTQ+ and Civil Rights history tours in Baltimore City with Baltimore Heritage, and she loves learning about the city she has called home for over a decade.
