Reimagining the Baltimore Harbor
June 8 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Join Sally Scott and Joby Taylor for a shared discussion: What would you Reimagine for our Baltimore?
In recent centuries, people originating from all corners of the globe — arriving by choice, circumstance or capture — have rebuilt Baltimore many times over. Our cultural inheritance is the sum of their experiences: triumphs and tragedies, hierarchies of power and privilege, and uprisings of resistance and resilience. A fundamental question has always been: Whose Harbor is this? Taylor and Scott, as city residents and local educators, believe that we now have a once-in-a generation opportunity to reimagine a harbor that’s of, by and for the people of Baltimore.
Sally Scott is Graduate Program Director of Community Leadership at UMBC where she leads an interdisciplinary program that draws on the teaching and research strengths of UMBC. She helps students build collaborative leadership skills and strong connections to local nonprofit organizations. She has worked with grassroots, multi-neighborhood, citywide, and statewide organizations in the Baltimore area.
Joby Taylor directs the Shriver Peaceworker Program at UMBC and has spent 20 years leading community engaged learning programs in Baltimore. His scholarship, teaching, and community work spans many fields across the Humanities and Social Sciences. He lives in Baltimore City and takes every chance he gets to lead students, colleagues, and friends on outings around the city to explore its rich history, complex challenges, diverse people, and emerging social change movements.
