Oh, The Places You’ll Go in STEM! How to Successfully Navigate your College Experience

Gabriel Duran headshotChoosing a major and trying to decide what you want to do for the rest of your life can be daunting, especially when you are just beginning college. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Getting exposure to possibilities in STEM and other fields while you are a student can help open doors to unexpected future career opportunities.

UMBC graduate Gabriel Duran will share how his experience and research at UMBC influenced his STEM career path. He will share stories about his student journey and offer helpful advice on how to successfully navigate the undergraduate student experience.

Bio: In 2020, Gabriel Duran received a BS in GES and a BA in Biology from UMBC. He is now a Master’s student at the Université du Québec à Montréal. He is a Research Consultant at the Woodwell Climate Research Center where he is supporting the arctic research team in the mapping of gas emission across Northern Siberia. He is co-leader of Unlearning Racism in Geoscience (URGE) where he co-created the URGE curriculum, and continues to facilitate URGE initiatives, including live events, BIPOC Listening sessions, URGE deliverables, etc.
